Our times challenge both physical and mental freedom. Fake news makes truth a rare resource, urging us to ask: Can we trust algorithms, templates, or AI? How do we detect and resist pre-programmed distortions?

Artists Saelia Aparicio, Gonzalo García, and Rusudan Khizanishvili explore vulnerability, trust, and power in distinct visual languages.

Curated by Nina Chkareuli-Mdivani, a New York-based Georgian curator focused on contemporary art and social issues.

Upcoming

02.05. – 07.06. Tammam Azzam. Painting, Work on Paper. Repro The Village, Tammam Azzam, 2023, Mixed media on canvas, 80 x 120 cm, Photo: Courtesy KORNFELD Galerie Berlin

Syrian artist Tammam Azzam examines themes of destruction and renewal, questioning the Conditio Humana. In his previous works, he used paper collages on canvas, gluing painted fragments together. For this exhibition, Azzam adopts a new technique, where he creates his own paper from shredded, painted fragments, which are then mounted on canvas. This process of rebuilding from fragments reflects both destruction and the potential for new creation.

13.06. – 23.08. Tamara Kvesitadze, Shunxiang Hu. Painting, Sculpture. Repro Man and Woman, Tamara Kvesitadze, 2021, Aluminium, 210 x 220 x 100 cm, Photo: Courtesy KORNFELD Galerie Berlin

Tamara Kvesitadze explores the connection between humans and the world, with the body at its core. She blends Western ancient mythology, surrealism, and Georgian history. She gained recognition for her kinetic sculptures, where movement plays a central role.

Shunxiang Hu, an oil painter with an affinity for mysticism, combines text, image, and theater. She addresses themes of women and human existence beyond gender, infused with philosophical spirit.

Johanna Reich works at the interface between digital and analog visual worlds. Many of her works are created on the basis of several years of research, in which the artist investigates and changes gaps in history, complex backgrounds of coding such as the opaque influence of databases on the development of algorithms and the resulting image production.

The exhibition "Christopher Lehmpfuhl: London" features the Berlin-based Plein-air painter who ventured into the streets of London, tracing the steps of the Impressionists. Lehmpfuhl's journey has resulted in a collection of new paintings and watercolours that capture the essence of London, blending tradition with his unique sensory style.

‘Morphing Memories’ shows works by Jay Gard, Tamara Kvesitadze, Susanne Roewer and Coral Lambert. They deal intensively with the interactions between sculpture and public space. Their common strength lies in the reinterpretation of traditional sculptural and architectural concepts, which they introduce into the contemporary discourse. The works on display thematise identity, cultural heritage and the dynamic relationships between people, space and society.

For the first time, the works of the two Berlin artists Franziska Klotz and Jan Muche enter into an exciting dialog. For the Gallery Weekend 2024, we are presenting the first solo exhibition by Rao Fu, who has lived in Dresden for two decades. His works combine influences from classical Chinese landscape painting and calligraphy with European traditions. Influences from the Dresden School, Edvard Munch, Peter Doig and Daniel Richter are combined with the culture and philosophy of the East, enriching Saxon Neo-Expressionism with an Asian component.

01.03.2024 – 19.04.2024 Ornament als Versprechen. Jan Tichy, Jay Gard. Painting, Sculpture, Fotografie. Repro double eight, Jay Gard, 2024, Acryl auf Holzintarsien, 75 x 63 cm, Photo: Courtesy KORNFELD Galerie Berlin

Under the title "Ornament als Versprechen", the exhibition presents for the first time a series of small-format cyanotypes by Jan Tichy in dialog with sculptures and paintings by Jay Gard. In apparent contradiction to their intensive engagement with the formal language of the Bauhaus, the two artists are united by a shared enthusiasm for ornament, which in their case is removed from its original context and becomes a substantial motif in their art.
