Profile

nüüd.berlin gallery was founded in 2016. The gallery's focus is on contemporary painting and photography, although most of the gallery's artists are intertwined with the other medium in one way or another. The series "nüüd.berlin intimate spaces" brings artists and the art-interested public together at irregular intervals in more intimate locations - artists' studios, artists' flats.

Past

14.11. – 19.12. Timemuseum. Fotografie, Mixed Media & Skulptur. Wilhelm Moser. Painting, Sculpture, Installation, Fotografie. Repro Iron Plane 1, Wilhelm Moser, 2024, Öl, Mixed Media auf Leinwand, 160 x 200 cm, Photo: Wilhelm Moser

Time behaves like rubber; it can be stretched, twisted, inflated, expanded and exploded. The artist Wilhelm Moser takes us on a fascinating journey through time between the past and the future, exploring the abstract nature of time. It is moments – exemplary, ephemeral, and yet equally timeless – frozen by a photograph, captured in a painting, or a sculpture.

11.09. – 26.10. Unterwegs. Sabine Beyerle. Painting. Repro Blättertanz, Sabine Beyerle, 2024, Öl u. Acryl auf Leinwand, 120 x 100 cm, Photo: Sabine Beyerle

With her new pictures, the artist tells the story of being on the road. She collects ideas for her pictures with her camera while travelling - this can be in the far distance, but also just around the corner in a Berlin backyard or in a Brandenburg meadow landscape. She draws attention to the fleeting and inconspicuous, structures and details that often go unnoticed. Pours of colour, generous brushstrokes and dissolutions characterise the beginning of her working process and form the basis of her paintings.

The exhibition introduces Mathias Vef as the gallery's new artist. In his works, he explores the interplay of body and identity, inspired by people who look at their bodies experimentally. Through photography, video and 3D scans, he deconstructs these bodies and creates new surreal works with the help of artificial intelligence. These works are contrasted with works by other artists to create a multi-layered field for discussion.

25.04. – 07.06. before now. Malerei. Ivar Kaasik. Painting. Repro Broken Light, Ivar Kaasik, 2023, Öl auf Leinwand, 90 x 85 cm, Photo: Ivar Kaasik

In the exhibition "before now", we are showing the fascinating world of the renowned Estonian artist Ivar Kaasik, who lives in Berlin. His large-format abstract paintings are characterised by monochrome colours and strict geometry, expressing chaos and death, but also light, order and rebirth. The new works from 2022/24 and the older works from the 1990s lead the viewer into the artist's past and present and are just as astonishing as a selection of his photorealistic paintings.

The exhibition shows photography by the Bahamian artist Dale Grant, who lives in Berlin and Rotterdam. The fashion and portrait photographer's favourite models are flowers, which for him are an allegory of life: at the beginning of their life they look very similar, but the moment they begin to wither, we see their true and unique beauty. The petals become transparent and fragile, giving texture and form to the photographic image.

In the process, he processes visions of the future, from utopia to dystopia: speed, the search for meaning and climate change are just as much a theme as the reflection of interpersonal structures and conflicts.

03.03.2023 – 15.04.2023 nature & destruction. Daniel & Geo Fuchs. Fotografie. Repro Jacques, Daniel & Geo Fuchs, 2016, Pigmentdruck, 108 x 241 cm

In their series "nature & destruction", the international renowned artists deal with the opposite poles of aesthetics and destruction. On the one hand, nature in their works is a supposedly perfect reproduction of what man hopes for from it: an untouched beauty and giver of all resources and powers. On the other hand, man is confronted in nature with its destruction and encroachment. The viewers are to be touched and stimulated to further confrontation and reflection.

03.03.2023 – 15.04.2023 nature & destruction. Daniel & Geo Fuchs. Fotografie. Repro James, Daniel & Geo Fuchs, 2016, Pigmentdruck, 200 x 148 cm

Axel Teichmann's art usually depicts individual human figures in often surreal situations, so that dialogues and impulses arise with the viewer of the artwork. The artist deals with identity, technology, digitalisation and social change. Paintings, pastels on paper and sculptures made of acrylic glass, which offer a more abstract and thus new component in Teichmann's figurative-realistic art, can be seen in the exhibition.

After two epically long pandemic years, we long for a summer of new freedoms and nights of revelry. But can we break out of the rehearsed crisis mode, of loneliness and emptiness, and surrender again to life, to sensuality that has become uncanny? Or do we have to think of the next morning and the busyness and distances of the day even in the liberating night? Artists of the gallery seek, find and give inspiration. Extended until 24 September 2022.

Scan is the first exhibition in Germany of works by Deni Horvatić, an artist born and living in Croatia in 1991. In his scan-like photographs, he removes the distance between himself and the portrayed by choosing a particular point of view: Taken from below, the images take as much as they give, for they deny the viewer a glimpse of the part of the body we most immediately associate with identity - the face.

How does one find focus in a diffuse world, calm in times of unrest? In her first solo exhibition, SUR LA TABLE, Anna Tunikova, born in 1994 and and working and living in Berlin, addresses the big questions. For her examination of the present, the artist draws on the past and abstracts forms in her paintings that are reminiscent of the Stone Age. In this field of tension between the times, what the audience is looking for opens up to them: calm and focus.

The photo exhibition #SpiritOfStBerlin presents works by street photographer and publicist Martin A. Völker. His Berlin images surprise with unusual insights and vistas, between the melancholy of everyday life and the departure into the dreamlike. Before the pandemic, city documents in stylish black and white dominate his work, transforming into abstract and colourful city icons during the pandemic. Berlin cool and hot at the same time.

The abstract works created during the pandemic by the German-Danish artist, born in 1986, display an expressive colourfulness and develop a special luminosity through the use of neon pigments. The unusual combination of different painting techniques is what makes these special colour landscapes so appealing, moving between action painting, pop art, street art and abstraction.

17.09.2021 – 06.11.2021 Anderswo. Gemälde und Papierarbeiten. Marco Kaufmann. Painting, Print. Repro Tape 2, Marco Kaufmann, 2021, Collage auf Papier, 30 x 30 cm, Photo: Marco Kaufmann

Inspired by the city, the country, travels and photographs, Marco Kaufmann translates what he feels and thinks in various techniques as a subjective variant of reality - he paints, pours, sprays, glues. In earlier works, he poured the paint until it reached the limit of the painter's masking tape, which was supposed to hold the line as if on a wall. In his new works, these adhesive strips take on a life of their own and become works of art themselves.
