Profile

Founded in 2011 Under The Mango Tree has firmly set roots in Berlin-Schöneberg, giving shade to contemporary, local hybrid perspectives and south asian artists. The gallery's vision is the belief that the artists may be geographically located anywhere, but not their expression. Naturally influenced from their familiar environs, their desire to communicate, to connect and to exceed expectations of locality, these artists are renegotiating identity in a globalized world. Their works traverse simplified compartmentalization of geography, religion, culture, or race through different medial expression, largely focusing on painting, photography, textiles and drawing navigating between the figurative and abstract.

Upcoming

25.05. – 29.06. Ecology of Resilience. Paintings of a rising Tamilian Artist from Srilanka. Sivasubramaniam Kajendran. Painting, Work on Paper. Repro Untitled, Sivasubramaniam Kajendran , 2024, Öl auf Leinwand, 105 x 75 cm, Photo: @Siva Kaja

The Gallery Under The Mango Tree is privileged and honored to debut the works of Tamil artist Sivasubramaniam Kajendran (b. 1988, Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka) in his first European solo show. Visually and conceptually captivating, Kajendran’s work represents the Tamil experience in Sri Lanka, affected by political and ecological struggles, largely overlooked by the international community. The exhibition, Ecology of Resilience, serves as an archive, encapsulating perseverance, capacity-building, and untethered hope—both for the artist and his community.

Earlier this year, Kajendran was selected for the prestigious Cité Internationale des Arts 2025–2026 residency program in Paris.

Past

14.02. – 11.04. Chants de Couleur. Kunst auf Papier. Adeline Meilliez. Print, Work on Paper, Screen printing. Repro Symphonie-en-roussillion, Adeline Meilliez, 2024, Siebdruck, 100 x 140, Photo: Adeline Meilliez

The exhibition “Chants de Couleur” showcases two series by the artist, illustrating a process of abstraction from the inspiration of colorful French landscapes to the intention of isolating color itself. In her Botanical series, artist Adeline Meilliez questions the way we create and perceive images today. In the second series, the artist gradually but surely detaches herself from the floral motif, opening up to a new, more abstract approach, yet closer to the idea of landscape. Color becomes the real subject, the very essence of the work.

08.09.2024 – 21.11.2024 Poetics of Relation. A Retrospective of 13 years. Painting, Work on Paper, Watercolor, Etching, Textile art, Fotografie.

Our current show, “Poetics of Relation” celebrates every artist’s individuality in relation to each other. Exhibited are almost 100 works by 23 artists focusing on Painting, Textiles and Photography.

Inspired by Martinique-born cultural theorist and poet, Édouard Glissant´s (1928–2011) publication “Poetics of Relation” (1990), the show seeks to guide the audience to move beyond traditional notions of identity as fixed and singular. A central idea for the gallery in the past and future.
