AArtist in residence HENRIK STRÖMBERG (Feb - Apr 2017)

As the first artist of the second cohort of the Artist in Residence Programme 2017 in cooperation with the Galleries Association of Berlin (lvbg) the photographer Henrik Strömberg (Grundemark Nilsson Gallery) has taken up his work in the AArtist Studio on the roof of the FFO. He will concentrate there on his ongoing work “Object Amnesic” - The Compost”

Henrik Strömberg about “Object Amnesic” - The Compost”:

"For this project I work with the idea of a second life, decay and the transformation of materials - sculptural objects and the photographic documentation of it. This hermetic process is contrasted by photographic studies of nature.

For the sculpture pieces, I use parts of deconstructed second hand collections of trophies. These deconstructed parts are then stacked vertically and transformed through the use of pigment and clay, and interlaced with different scrap and natural pieces.

These seemingly fragile objects are shown in a state of flux, allowing for the possibility of reconstructing and photographing them again and again. I fixate each assembled object through the photographic process.

Based on classical sculpture practice, where every cast requires a mold, I present the negatives of the photographs, evoking similarities between sculptural and photographic processes.

In the nature studies series I depict both cultivated plants as well as plants and greenery in their natural habitat.

The studio on the roof of the Federal Foreign Office in the centre of Berlin is a wonderful and symbolic place of inspiration for fascinating encounters and a new artistic exchange. The European connections of the Federal Foreign Office as well as the attractive location of the beautiful studio are beneficial to my research into the work “Object Amnesic - The Compost”."
